How We Select and Review Estate Planning Software

Estate Tech Reviews is an independent publication focused exclusively on estate planning technology. Every review on this site reflects our editorial team’s honest assessment of each product.

Our Review Process

Each review begins with hands-on evaluation of the software, supplemented by interviews with estate planning attorneys who use or have evaluated the platform. We assess every product across eight core dimensions:

  • Case and matter management — How well the platform organizes client matters, tasks, and deadlines for estate planning workflows.
  • Document drafting and automation — The quality and flexibility of document templates, assembly tools, and AI-assisted drafting features.
  • Client intake — How effectively the platform collects and structures client information, reducing manual data entry for attorneys and staff.
  • Integrations — Compatibility with common legal and financial tools including CRM, billing, document storage, and wealth management platforms.
  • Pricing and value — Transparency of pricing, total cost of ownership, and value delivered relative to competing platforms.
  • Security and compliance — Data security standards, compliance certifications, and access controls relevant to sensitive estate planning information.
  • Mobile access — The quality of mobile applications and browser-based access for attorneys working outside the office.
  • Support quality — Availability, responsiveness, and depth of customer support including onboarding assistance.

Our Rating Scale

We rate each product on a 1–5 scale. A rating of 4.5 or above indicates a platform we consider best-in-class for its primary use case. Ratings between 4.0 and 4.4 reflect solid, capable platforms with meaningful strengths and specific limitations. Ratings below 4.0 indicate products that may serve narrow use cases well but have notable gaps for most estate planning firms.

Editorial Independence

Estate Tech Reviews does not accept payment for favorable coverage, guaranteed placement, or positive ratings. Vendors may request a review, but the editorial team determines when and whether to publish. All ratings and editorial assessments are made without vendor input or approval.

Who We Are

Our editorial team has backgrounds in estate planning law, legal technology, and software evaluation. We focus exclusively on the estate planning technology market, which allows us to evaluate products with a depth of context that general-purpose software review sites cannot match.
